Transplant Games - Your chance to join in.

Some of the Exeter team....where are you?

The EDKPA encourages its transplant members

to join in the transplant games.

The aim of The Games is to encourage transplant patients to regain fitness and to promote friendship and co-operation between individuals concerned with transplantation, whilst increasing public awareness of the value of organ donation.

Transplant Games 2010 in Bath

Last year, the Games were in Bath over the weekend Aug 19th to 22nd. As usual, Exeter sent a team up, captained by Wendy Sincock. The team was Wendy Sincock (Spreyton), Alison Cliff (Minehead), Alan Davies (Taunton), Brian Smith (Torquay), Mike Brewer (Newton Abbot), Nigel Sandford (Exeter), Steve Barker (Somerset) and Jerry Morris (Chard).

Your name not there? Like to join in this year at Belfast? If you have had a transplant, you could be in the team.

What does it need?

Enthusiasm and a want to promote transplantation. Coming first is not the aim, but joining in is required (everyone who goes says it is also very good fun to meet so many other transplanted people. You have to fund yourself or the weekend, but the team carry out most of the fundraising . Accommodation is reasonably priced and it’s a truly wonderful weekend to celebrate what transplants mean. There are the usual track and field events, tennis, canoeing and swimming, but there are also quieter events such as lawn bowls, darts, and snooker. , plus swimming. You’ll need a medical certificate (the unit is only too happy to provide one if you are able to participate), and there is ample time to get involved (by June). This year, the age groups are better defined, so you will always find yourself in events with very similar people.  This year, the team are entering table tennis, badminton, swimming, and discus. The team always have a wonderful time – and you could be with them this year. The Games are more about celebrating health and promoting transplantation, so you do not have to be super-fit and quick to enter. Most competitors are just people like you and me…. And you could be with the team this year. Interested? Contact Wendy Sincock (01647 231 597/e-mail scissorhandssincock@yahoo.com). It’s never too late to start. For further details, see here.

SHEFFIELD TRANSPLANT GAMES (7 - 11 August 2008)

Alison Cliffe won gold tennis silver badminton 2 bronze table tennis @ discus Mike Brewer won bronze badminton Steven Barker got 4th in the fishing. Poor Alan Davies who took over team manager from Wendy this year (who could not go), had to be rushed back to R D E hospital with a huge infection that sent his blood results through the roof. He took part only in the fishing. We’re pleased to say the doctors have got his levels in order.
